AI Governance Specialist — Full Profile

One of the fastest-growing roles in the assurance profession. AjaCertX is actively building its AI governance capability aligned to ISO 42001 and the EU AI Act.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Conduct gap analyses against ISO/IEC 42001:2023 for client organisations across technology, financial services, healthcare and manufacturing
  • Design and implement AI Management Systems (AIMS) including AI policies, risk registers, impact assessments and control frameworks
  • Perform AI Risk & Impact Assessments aligned to ISO 42005 and NIST AI Risk Management Framework
  • Lead or support ISO 42001 gap analysis, implementation and audit engagements
  • Advise clients on EU AI Act obligations — identifying high-risk AI systems, transparency requirements and conformity assessment pathways
  • Review AI system documentation for ethical AI principles: fairness, explainability, accountability and data governance
  • Support clients in aligning AI governance with existing ISO 27001 ISMS and ISO 9001 QMS frameworks
  • Deliver ISO 42001 awareness and implementor training to client teams
Requirements

What We Look For

Essential
  • ISO 42001 Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer certification (PECB or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in IT governance, GRC, information security or AI/data roles
  • Solid understanding of AI/ML concepts, data pipelines and algorithmic risk
  • Working knowledge of EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF or comparable regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to produce clear, structured compliance documentation
Desirable
  • ISO 27001 Lead Auditor or CISM / CRISC qualification
  • Experience with ISO 42005 AI impact assessments
  • Background in legal, privacy (GDPR) or data ethics
  • Technical experience in MLOps, model validation or AI system architecture

Technical Interview

A structured deep-dive with a senior AjaCertX specialist in your field. Expect questions on technical standards knowledge, audit methodology, real-world scenarios and professional judgement. For auditor roles, this typically includes a nonconformity writing or audit planning exercise. For AI Governance roles, it may include an AI risk assessment scenario.

Panel Interview

45–60 mins · With Leadership

A panel conversation with two or three senior leaders at AjaCertX covering cultural fit, values alignment, longer-term career aspirations and working expectations. This is also your opportunity to understand the team, the clients and the direction we are heading. Successful candidates receive an offer within 5 working days of this stage.

Provide certificate numbers or registration IDs so we can verify them. For AI roles, include ISO 42001 or equivalent AI governance credentials.

Two professional references from people who can speak to your technical competence and professional character — a former manager, client or senior colleague.

Portfolio / Work Samples — Where Applicable

Anonymised audit reports, nonconformity examples, training materials or assurance deliverables you have produced. Not mandatory but highly valued for technical roles.

Cover Letter — Strongly Recommended

FAQs

Do you hire remote or field-based?+
Most professional roles — auditors, specialists, trainers — are field-based or remote with client travel. We operate with a flexible, distributed working model.
What experience level is required?+
We hire experienced professionals only. For auditor and specialist roles, a minimum of 3–5 years of relevant hands-on experience is required. We do not currently offer graduate or trainee positions.
Do you engage freelance or associate auditors?+
Yes. In addition to permanent roles, we engage experienced associates and freelance auditors for specific projects and geographies. Please indicate your preferred engagement model and availability in your application.
What certifications do I need for AI Governance roles?+
ISO 42001 Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer qualification (PECB or equivalent) is preferred. Candidates with a strong ISO 27001 or GRC background who are actively pursuing ISO 42001 certification will also be considered.
How long does the process take?+
Most roles complete all three stages within 3–4 weeks. We acknowledge every application within 5 working days and provide clear feedback at each stage. We do not leave candidates without communication at any point in the process.
